Notes from Friends of Fantômas

Barbara Peterson writes: Just checked out your website and love it (thanks for mentioning it in Silents Newsgroup). However, either my browser is hosed or your html code for various characters is missing something. I'm getting ampersands in the middle of words, and also at the beginnings of quotations.

Sorry that you're having problems with the site. The ampersands you saw are part of HTML codes that are supposed to create typographical effects (such as a circumflex over the "o" in Fantomas, as in the banner). It works on my browser (the dreaded Internet Explorer) and should work on Netscape Navigator. But, as we've discovered, it doesn't. So we're replacing all our files with new ones containing the (supposedly) universal numeric typographical codes. If you see an ampersand followed by weird text in the middle of a word, we just haven't spotted it yet.

Also, why why why use frames??? I have only a 10 inch screen as it is. By using three inches of screen as a never moving/always there irritant I can't get the full impact of the site!

I used frames because the site is so text-intensive (long articles and lists, etc) and the buttons on the left allow you to navigate around the site without having to go the the bottom or top of whatever page you're on. As for the banner, I admit that it's probably excessive, but I love the typography (it's slightly modified from the version on the original book covers). Evidently on your screen the impact isn't worth the loss of space. My apologies.

Anyway - apart from this bitching on my part am very glad to see this site and hope it will lead to further interest in Fantomas! Thank you!
